Obituary for William Lee "Bill" Harvey

William "Bill" Lee Harvey, 76 of Oakland slipped from the pains of his earthy bounds into the glorious arms of his Savior after a short but fierce battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born at home in Gormania, WV, to Harry and Bertha (Walters), Bill never moved far from his roots. After graduating from Southern Garrett High School, he worked a variety of jobs. He was never without employment for more than a week.

Bill was a hard and dedicated worker and did everything from timber to offloading train cars of chest freezers and stacking them three feet high. It was during his employment at Southern States that he met the love of his life Brenda K. (Lewis). The two were wed June 14, 1975.

Shortly thereafter in 1980 Bill was employed at Mettiki Coal Company where he retired after 32 years of perfect attendance. Bill was a faithful member at the Pleasant View Baptist Church serving many years as head trustee, overseeing at least one major building project.

Family meant everything to Bill. He enjoyed traveling and vacationing and taking the entire family, including his seven precious grandchildren.

Bill is survived not only by his wife, but his three children who were each his favorite. Andrew H. Harvey of Oakland; Rebecca Herman and husband Kevin of Mt. Lake Park; and Billy Harvey and wife Christy of Buchanan, Michigan; and his baby sister Pat Rishell and husband Charlie of Mt. Lake Park. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Gryphon and Liam Herman; MaKayla, Jedidiah, Wyatt, Arabella and Emslie Harvey. He leaves behind countless nieces and nephews that mourn his loss.

Bill has two very good friends, Tom and wife Sharon "Sis" Bernard of Oakland; and Jay and wife Carolyn Park of Blacksville, WV. The family also wishes to thank Joanna and Jennifer of Hospice who cared lovingly for Bill in his final days.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister Barbara Harvey; brother Donald "Don" Harvey; sister Dorthy "Dot" Rishell; and niece Kimberly (Rishell) Keller.

Interment will be private for immediate family at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 from 12:00pm-1:00pm at the Pleasant View Baptist Church preceding a memorial service at the church at 1:00pm with Pastor Wally Weeks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed in Bill's memory to Cindy's Fund.

Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Oakland, is assisting Bill’s family with arrangements.
