Obituary for William Glen "Bill" Fratz

William Glen “Bill” Fratz, 68, of Avilton, MD, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

Born November 7, 1953, in Oakland, MD, he was the son of the late Glenn and Kathleen (Rush) Fratz. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Bowser; step-father, Earl Wentz and brother-in-law, Douglas Klotz.

Bill was a 1972 graduate of Northern Garrett High School. He worked for 14 years as a scaleman for Delta Coal Sales. Bill retired after working for 26 years as a certified Electrician for Beitzel Corporation.

Mr. Fratz was a faithful Christian and a devoted member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Accident, MD. Spending time with his family and friends was most important to him. His hobbies included shopping with his girls, yard work, caring for his beautiful flowers, and fixing anything and everything for all of us. He also enjoyed helping out Bonnie and family at the Klotz Corn Shack, helping his brother Jim and riding his motorcycle. He was a Volkswagen enthusiast and also liked sawmills/logging and antique tractors.

He is survived by his loving wife, his high school sweetheart of 44 years, Barbara (McKenzie) Fratz; three daughters, Sara Fratz and fiancé, Jake Landis, Somerset, PA; Kathleen Williams and husband, Jason, Ridgeley, WV; Lori Kyle and husband, Ronald, Frostburg, MD; loving grandpa and Pappal to his seven grandchildren, Montana Mahler, Mckenzie Mahler, Shane Mahler, Austin Williams, Kambria Kyle, Kortney Kyle and Kaylee Kyle; one brother, James (Lena) Fratz; two sisters, Margie (Bobby) Nelson and Connie Wagner; a very special niece, Laura Butler, NY, who gave part of her liver for his transplant; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved dog, Buddy.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff, Lori and Grace, at Hospice of Garrett County and Bonnie, Becky, Tim, Angie and families for their exceptional care, love and support.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, MD, on Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Zion Lutheran Church, Friday, January 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Benjamin Hertel and Pastor James Oester officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Zion Cemetery.
