Obituary for Weldon Sanford "Sandy" Bodes

Weldon Sanford “Sandy” Bodes, 79, of Springs, PA, died Thursday, September 2, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 16, 1941, in Meyersdale, PA, he was the son of the late Harry and Myrtle (Johns) Bodes. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Bradley; one son, Jody Weldon Bodes; father and mother-in-law, Ted and Marion Ringler; two brothers-in-law, Barron Ringler and “Bing” Ringler.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Ringler) Bodes, whom he married September 9, 1967; one son, Jeffrey Bodes, Springs; son and daughter through love, Brian and Betty Jo (Hutzel) Zonis, Williamsport, MD; the absolute loves of his life, his grandchildren, Brandon (Emily) Bodes, Springs; Austin and Audrey Zonis, Williamsport; one brother, Thomas (Patricia) Bodes, Finzel, MD; sister-in-law, Terry Ringler, West Salisbury, PA; two brothers-in-law, Darwin (Roni) Ringler, Frostburg, MD; Charles Ringler, West Salisbury; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandy was a graduate of Salisbury-Elk Lick High School, Class of 1960. At the age of 21 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served a year in Vietnam. He was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ, Salisbury, where he sang in the church choir in his younger years and also served on the church consistory. He was a life member of the Cumberland Chapter of Vietnam Veterans, life member of Walker-Harris Post 8826 V.F.W., Salisbury, and a member of the Earl H. Opel Post 459, American Legion, Salisbury. Sandy played guitar and fiddle in a country music band for many years.

Sandy enjoyed spending time with his family, best friends of over 55 years, Patty and Bill Bittinger, watching the Steelers, fishing and hunting.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, MD, on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Tyler Graham officiating. Interment will be in the Salisbury Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Earl H. Opel Post 459, American Legion.
