Obituary for Waynard Leroy Simmons

Waynard Leroy Simmons, 105, of Grantsville, MD, died Friday, November 26, 2021, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.

Born April 6, 1916, in Annapolis, MD, he was the son of the late Robert Estep and Mary Jane (Lee) Simmons. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anne Elizabeth “Betty” (Sears) Simmons, November 14, 2005.

Mr. Simmons was a Fiscal Officer for the U.S. Naval Institute and also worked as a Librarian Assistant for MD State Law Library. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army/Air Force serving during WWII, stationed at Turner Field, Albany, GA. He was a 1935 graduate from Annapolis High School. Waynard and his wife moved to Grantsville in 1995. He was a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church, Frostburg, MD and formerly a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Annapolis.

He is survived by two daughters, Ann (Richard) Vail, Austin, TX; Gail (Stephen) Perrine, Cranesville, WV; three granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

At his request, he will be cremated and privates services will be held.

Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
