Obituary for Thomas Elwood Glotfelty

Thomas Elwood Glotfelty, 64, of Tecumseh, MI, died Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi St Francis, Wichita, KS.

Born January 1, 1958, in Oakland, MD, he was the son of Donna (Reckner) Glotfelty, Grantsville, MD and the late James Glotfelty.

Tom, who had his pilot’s license for 48 years, was a Senior Captain for Spirit Airlines for the past 25 years and planned to retire January 2023. Tom had also owned Lakeside Aviation for 12 years and ran the Garrett Co. Airport for 12 years. He was a member of AOPA and Sea Plane Pilots Association.

Above and beyond everything, his passions were his family, grandchildren and flying.

Along with his mother, he is also survived by his companion, Priya Awasker Thomas, Tecumseh; two sons, Taylor (Aida) Glotfelty, Wheaton, IL; Timothy (Michelle) Glotfelty, Burlington, VT; three sisters, Linda (Hank) Oester, Salisbury, PA; Karmen (Julius) Carey, Frostburg, MD; Lisa (Dwaine) Platter, Smithsburg, MD; three grandchildren, Riley Glotfelty-Najera, Nicholas and Matthew Glotfelty.

Friends will be received at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 22 Maynardier Ridge Rd., Bittinger, MD 21522, on Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the church on Friday, May 27, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. James Oester officiating. Interment will be in the Bittinger Cemetery.
