Obituary for Thomas Lee Bittinger

Thomas Lee Bittinger, 37, of Swanton, MD, passed away peacefully in his home, Sunday, January 8, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. Tom will be remembered most by those that love him for his sharp and witty personality which includes his determination, stubbornness, wisdom, compassion, and carefree attitude. He was always there for those who needed his help without hesitation.

Tom was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a 19kilo with multiple deployments. He worked security for The Black Bear Tavern. Tom was primarily employed with Beitzel Corporation for the last seven years until falling sick with cancer on July 18, 2022, at work in New Jersey. His sarcasm and stubbornness kept him fighting after multiple setbacks. He showed no fear and laughed while fighting an impossible fight. He changed the lives of many. When he was given two days, he only asked one question to his oncologist “Tell me this wasn’t all for nothing and you will save the next person with setbacks like mine.” He was not the standard case, but a medical mystery. But in the end he was at peace.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Michelle E Bittinger and two children, EliseMarie (19) and Jackson (16); his mother, Eleanor Bittinger; grandparents, Dallas and Joyce Bittinger; his brothers, Anthony Brodak & wife Susanna, Scott “Ward” Savage & wife Melanee, and Jake Savage & wife Melanie; along with several nieces and nephews. Tom is preceded in death by his father, Ray Bittinger and his chosen brother, Corey McElory.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 4pm at Brodak’s Banquet Hall, 18268 Garrett Highway, Oakland MD, 21550.
