Obituary for Susan Elizabeth Al-Khatib (Butler)
Susan Elizabeth Al-Khatib, 58, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023, at UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, surrounded by her loving family. She fought a long, courageous battle with various serious illnesses.
Born August 20, 1964, in Meyersdale, PA, she was the daughter of Herbert and Marylou (Miller) Butler. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Yihia M. Al-Khatib, whom she married on February 14, 1987; also left to cherish her memory are her brother Bill and wife, Donna; niece, Baillie; nephew, Caleb and great-nephew, Sebastian.
Susie was a graduate of Turkeyfoot Valley High School, West Virginia College and Allegany College of Maryland. She was former employee of West Virginia University, Cumberland Memorial Hospital and as a traveling nurse throughout Virginia.
Susie was a kind, gentle soul with a huge heart of gold. She doted on her niece and nephews. She was an animal lover with a special fondness for cats.
At Susie’s request, she will be cremated and no services are planned.
