Obituary for Sheldon Sylvester Whitacre
Sheldon Sylvester Whitacre, 79, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Oakland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Oakland.
Born April 12, 1943, in Swallow Falls, MD, he was the son of the late, Joseph Sylvester and Evelyn Janet (Sines) Whitacre. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Ray Whitacre, a brother, Robert Whitacre and two sisters, Delores Proulx and Helen Sines.
Sheldon retired from Garrett County Roads Department, after 36 years of employment. He was a member of Pine Grove Church, Oakland Elks Lodge #2481 and the Deer Park Sportsman Club. Sheldon enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nadean Louise (Lewis) Whitacre; two sons, Matthew Sheldon Whitacre and Jeremy Allen Whitacre, both of Oakland; a daughter, Diane Michelle Welch and husband, Darrell, Oakland; a sister, Sandy Jamison, Oakland; two granddaughters, Katie and Michelle; three great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Ivy and Carter.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Dr., Oakland, MD 21550, on Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.. Services will be conducted at Pine Grove Church, 5792 Oakland Sang Run Rd., Oakland, MD 21550, on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Carl Fike officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
