Obituary for Robert Franklin "Bob" Stewart

Robert “Bob” Franklin Stewart, 84, of Oakland MD, passed away on March 23, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. He struggled for many years with Parkinson’s disease and other health issues.

Born April 28, 1938, he was the son of the late Chris Stewart and Lucille (Davis) Stewart. He was also preceded in death by one son, David Stewart; four brothers, Sam, Alston “Fid”, Leroy “Tink”, and Dave Stewart; and two sisters, Margaret (Stewart) Hanlin and Elnora (Stewart) Goodwin.

Bob served in the US Army and was also a machine operator and truck drive for Sylvan Manufacturing, previously owned and operated by the late John Doppel. He was a member of Mountaintop Seventh-day Adventist Church for 55 years. He was interested in the Bible from a young age and took his faith and all Bible topics very seriously. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World. He was a loving husband and father who took pride in his family. He enjoyed working outdoors, mowing the grass, raking leaves, and cutting wood. He especially loved playing outdoors with family and friends, swimming, playing softball, and taking Sabbath walks.

Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy (Broadwater) Stewart; four daughters, Crystal (Stewart) Wallace and husband, Rick; Cynthia (Stewart) Bakken and husband, Fredrik; Jennifer (Broadwater) Doolan and husband, Scott; Susan Broadwater and companion, Mickey Kemphfer; one son, Lucas Stewart; three brothers, Jerry, Wayne, and Russell “Duke” Stewart; one sister, Rose (Stewart) Kinser; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD, on Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 6:00pm-8:00pm. A service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, March 27, 2023, at 11:00am with Pastor Matthew Haire and Elder Ed Rockwell officiating. Interment will be in Deer Park Cemetery where military graveside rites will be accorded by Proctor Kildow Post 71, American Legion and Deer Park VFW Post 10077.
