Obituary for Rhoda Fern Durst (Bittner)
Rhoda Fern Durst, 97, of Wolfsville, MD and formerly of Grantsville, MD, died Friday September 30, 2022, at Creekside Nursing Home, Hagerstown, MD.
Born in Grantsville, on June 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Orville and Annie May (Durst) Bittinger. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Ernest “Cricket” Durst; one son, Bradley Clark Durst; seven siblings, Iva May Hetrick, Sadie Alverda Bittinger, Earl William Bittinger, Simon Henry Bittinger, Robert Lee Bittner, Lula Victoria Durst and Orville Harvey Bittinger.
Rhoda was a life member of the Laughlin Church of the Brethren.
Fern is survived by her three children, Linda Durst and husband, Glenn, Frostburg; Ernest “Ernie” Durst and Phyllis Ann Durst, Wolfsville; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott Vaughn and wife, Tonya, Wolfsville; Tobby Durst, Frostburg; two great-grandchildren, Dana Vaughn and husband, Matt Delisi, Monrovia, MD, and Shelby Vaughn, Wolfsville; adopted granddaughter, Connie Garlitz; sister-in-law, Thelma Bittinger Ickes, Grantsville; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rodney Durst officiating. Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery.
