Obituary for Rev. David Eugene Fetter

Reverend David Eugene Fetter, of Salisbury, PA, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at the Fairfax Nursing Center, Fairfax, VA.

Born August 15, 1934, in Selinsgrove, PA, he was the son of the late Harry F. and Anna G. (Fry) Fetter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Jean “Jeanne” (Lohr) Fetter, who he was married to for 50 of the 52 years he was a minister.

David grew up in Sunbury and Selinsgrove, PA, the youngest of 9 children. He attended Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, where he received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Sociology and received his Master’s in Divinity from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettsyburg, PA.

Rev. Fetter spent 52 years as a pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury, Greenville Evangelical Lutheran Church in Salisbury, and Christ Lutheran Church in Grantsville, MD.

David loved to speak German, drink beer, chat with his parishioners and spent the last few years of his life getting to know his two grandsons.

He is survived by his son, Michael, daughter, Julie and her wife, Deborah Litman, and his 2 grandsons, Dylan and Jaden Fetter-Litman.

David is remembered for always having a smile on his face and a comforting word to say to his parishioners. He was an amazing father – he loved the Steelers and any team Julie played on. He spent countless hours sitting at the kitchen table, drinking coffee with Mike, talking with Jeanne and drawing with Julie. Until the last days of his life, every single person who met David spoke of how much they enjoyed talking with him.
