Obituary for Raymond Charles VanSickle

Raymond Charles VanSickle, 87, of Friendsville, MD, passed on to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 29, 2023, at home.

Born on July 30, 1935, near Friendsville, he was the second born son to the late Perry Franklin and Lola Lauretta VanSickle. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Grace M. VanSickle, on May 19, 2009.

Raymond worked at a variety of jobs during his lifetime, often telling stories of driving truck or working on the gas rigs. He loved to hunt and fish, which he did up until last year. He could share hunting tales with the best storytellers. Most of all, he loved to work on the farm, raising sheep and cows, plowing the fields, making hay and riding his four-wheeler around the farm.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna DeWitt and husband, Ronnie, Friendsville; one grandson, Derek DeWitt and companion, Beth Olinzock, Friendsville; four great-grandchildren, Katielee Olinzock, Angela Olinzock, Breanna Olinzock and Logan Olinzock, all of Friendsville; two brothers, James VanSickle and Lott (Jane) Garletts, all of Friendsville; four sisters, Janet (George) Fike, Friendsville; Alice Catherine Hartzell, Boonesboro, MD; Mary Jane Yoder, Cumberland, MD; Judy (Ronnie) Frazee, Friendsville; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Galen Beitzel officiating. Interment will be in the Blooming Rose Cemetery.
