Obituary for Mitchell Ray Fost Sr.

Mitchell Ray Fost, Sr., 60, of Bittinger, MD, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV, surrounded by family after battling cancer.

Born on May 14, 1961, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of Donald and Wanda (Lease) Fost, Cresaptown, MD. He was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Jerry Rice.

Mr. Fost was a bricklayer and stonemason by trade, working for the Bricklayers Union most of his life. He also spent time at the International Masonry Institute as an instructor. Going to work every day made him happy. The friends that he made there and the good times he had with them were important to him. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Jennings.

Mitch was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time in the woods hunting and along the water fishing for trout. Hunting turkeys in the spring was always what he looked forward to the most. He achieved his dream when he was able to purchase the farmhouse that he and his wife, Kim, started their family in. Nothing meant more to him than spending time with his family on the farm where it all began.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kim (Burow) Fost; two sons, Mitchell (Sophia), Friendsville, MD; Casey (Jessica), Bittinger; one daughter, Scarlett (Michael) Frantz, Friendsville; five grandchildren, William, Wyatt, Isabelle, Bowen and Morgan; two brothers, Mark (Shelby) Fost and Greg Fost and one sister, Dixie (Tom) Rice, all of Cresaptown; father-in-law, Robert Burow, Grantsville, MD; mother-in-law, Glenne (Wayne) Blocher, Frostburg, MD; brother-in-law, David (Jennifer) Burow, Grantsville and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ruby Memorial Hospital and WVU Cancer Institute for the wonderful care of Mitchell.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Monday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Zion Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen Yelovich officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Cremation will follow services.
