Martin Dale Schrock, 68, of Grantsville, MD, died Saturday, January 29, 2022, at his residence.
Born August 18, 1953, in Meyersdale, PA, he was the son of the late Olen and Miriam (Beachy) Schrock. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Geneva Joy.
Martin was a member of the Mountain View Mennonite Church. He had a passion for singing and sang with the church chorus, The Mountain Anthems, from its inception to its disbandment, which spanned approximately 50 years. He was a soloist for the group and bus driver for many years. He believed that he was born to drive bus for the ministry. He was known as an excellent driver, providing a safe and smooth ride. His care for the bus was impeccable.
Martin was a truck driver for Noah M. Beachy and Sons, T.F. Milling and Grantsville Truck and Trailer. He was a payloader operator for several pallet shops, worked in production at Rigidply Rafters, and a Service Representative for Choice Books. Just prior to retirement he was employed at Closet Maid in Grantsville.
Martin is survived by his wife of 40 years, Catherine Joyce (Tice) Schrock; three brothers, Millard (Diane) Schrock, Grantsville; Mayard (Trish) Schrock, Cumberland, MD; Melvin “Cork” (Lorie) Schrock, Accident, MD; seven sisters, Vera (Bruce) Martin, Meyersdale; Delores (Michael) Yoder, Grantsville; Gloria (Kenneth) Swartzentruber, Salisbury, PA; Loretta (Gerald) Tice and Lila (Merlin) Beachy, all of Grantsville; Julia (Bradley) Yoder, Springs, PA; Rebecca (David) Kauffman, Bittinger, MD; a special nephew, Steven (Amber) Tice, II, who lived with Martin and Joyce for some time.
The family would like to thank you for your prayers, food, and words of encouragement.
A special thanks to Matthew Hottle for giving tirelessly of his time and advice. To Kelly Knox, Stephanie Wilt, and the Hospice staff, for their assistance in giving care to Martin, as well as The Highland Thrift Shop staff for a flexible work schedule.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Mountain View Mennonite Church, 1154 St. Paul Rd., Salisbury, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Peter Beachy, Jr. and Matthew Hottle officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery.
