Obituary for Marjorie Jane Stetz (Cherry)

Marjorie Cherry Stetz went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 21, 2021. Born August 17, 1933, in Keyport, NJ, to George and Ethel Cherry, Marjorie grew up loving the people and the Bayshore life of her hometown. She attended K-12 schools there and was a cheerleader at Keyport High School. She went on to graduate from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) and returned to Keyport to teach elementary school. During a snowy winter day on a blind date at the Shore Pointe Inn in Hazlet, NJ, in 1957, she met the love of her life, Gordon McKenzie Stetz, who was stationed at the nearby U.S. Army Nike missile site. There were married several months after that date and had been together for 64 years.

In 1980, they moved to Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, as Gordon’s employer, GMAC, moved their headquarters from New York to Detroit. They later retired to Deep Creek Lake, Near Oakland, MD. The beautiful mountains of Western Maryland have been their home for over 30 years.

In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Ellen Cherry. She is survived by her loving family; husband, Gordon McKenzie Stetz; their three children, Susan Stetz Finch (John), Raleigh, NC; Gordon McKenzie Stetz, Jr. (Joanie), Baltimore, MD; Robert Campbell Stetz (Maureen), Brick, NJ; their seven grandchildren, David, Danny, Andrew, Michael, Nick, Janie, and Makaley; their three great grandchildren, Laura, Isaac, and Samuel.

A private graveside service to celebrate the life of Marjorie Stetz will be held with Reverend Donald Marks officiating.
