Obituary for Margaret Louise Wakefield (Lohr)

Margaret Louise (Lohr) Wakefield passed on to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Garrett Regional Medical Center, Oakland, MD.

Margaret was born October 11, 1935, in Accident, MD and was raised in the Lynn Dale community of Pleasant Valley, Oakland. She was the daughter of the late George W. and N. Virginia (DeBerry) Lohr. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nina Miller; brothers, Carl and P. Roger Lohr and a daughter, Connie Sue Wakefield.

Margaret is survived by her husband of 70 years, Floyd “Buster” Wakefield; a brother, Richard Lohr (Janet), Bergton, VA; a daughter, Pamela L. Hinton (Steve), Eglon, WV; a son, Bradley F. Wakefield (Marylin), Kelseyville, CA; grandsons, Randall J. Hinton (Beth), Pennsauken, NJ, Joseph L. Hinton, Eglon, Tyler Wakefield, Kelseyville; granddaughter, Sara Wakefield, IN; great grandchildren, Jeremiah and Elizabeth “Betsy” Hinton, Pennsauken, Davin and Havin Wakefield, Kelseyville and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret graduated from Northern High School and was a loving wife and mother who was devoted to caring for others before herself. She worked as a teacher’s aide at Fellowsville School, Fellowsville, WV, and as a cook at Spear Nursing Home, Markleysburg, PA. Margaret enjoyed teaching children in Sunday School and Bible School and participated in many other church ministries. She spent her final 22 months of life as a resident of Dennett Road Manor and used her time there to be an inspiration to other residents and her caregivers. She told them many stories of her life’s adventures and encouraged them with songs and poems. Margaret will especially be remembered for her motto “Fully Rely on God- FROG” and reciting from memory her “Christmas Poem” for church programs and anyone who wanted to listen.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Avenue, Friendsville on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 11:00 am in the funeral home with the Rev. Dana Umbel officiating. Cremation will follow the service. A private burial will be held in Blooming Rose Cemetery.
