Obituary for Mabel Marie Lewis (Welch)
Mabel Marie (Welch) Lewis, 83, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home.
Born December 19, 1939, in Hutton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Lester Roy and Margaret Nell (Brown) Welch. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, whom she married on September 20, 1958, Robert Eugene Lewis, Sr.; one daughter, Barbara; five brothers; Roy B. “Bud”, Ernest R. “Rusty”, Russell L. “Packy”, Olin R. “Dick”, and Carl L. Welch; one sister, Nancy J. Uphold; two half-sisters, Rosetta Welch and Evelyn Glotfelty; and three half-brothers, Cecil William “Red Eye”, Burl, and Ronald L. Welch.
Mabel was a homemaker, who also worked for Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home as a CNA, as well as Mountain Glade Adult Day Services. She was a member of Loch Lynn Church of God and Woodmen of the World.
She is survived by four sons, Robert E. Lewis, Jr. (Della) Bayard, WV; Brent Lewis (Tammy), Brian Lewis (girlfriend, Kim), and Brad Lewis (Sandy), all of Oakland; one daughter, Beth Ann Helbig (Chris), Oakland; two brothers, Clyde K. and Denver C. Welch, both of Oakland; two sisters, Erma “Judy” Friend, Oakland and Cleda J. Bulger, PA; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD on Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 5:00pm-8:00pm. A service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11:00, with Pastors Ivan and Pastor Cindy Ackerman officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
