Obituary for Kenneth Bittinger
Kenneth Bittinger, 92, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Wednesday, May 17th, 2023.
Born on March 3, 1931, in Bloomington, MD, he was the son of the late Edward & L. Helen (O'Brien) Bittinger. Kenneth was married for 45 years to the late, Elizabeth Bittinger.
Kenneth graduated in 1949 from Bruce High School. After graduation, he attended Catherman's Business school, before he was drafted into the Army and served in Japan during the Korean conflict. After he served his country, he attended Frostburg University, where he obtained his bachelor's degree. He continued his education at the University of Maryland, where he received his master’s degree in Secondary Education. He worked in various school systems for many years. His career began as a teacher and guidance counselor at Greenbelt Junior High, moving on to Vice Principal at Suitland Junior High. When he moved back to Garrett County, he was a Vocational Counselor at both Northern and Southern High Schools. Kenneth became the Vice Principal and Principal at Northern High School before retiring in 1995 from the Board of Education as the Vocational Supervisor.
Kenneth is survived by his children, Paula Hutson and her husband, Curtis, of Oakland, MD and James Bittinger, II, and his wife, Donna, of Oakland, MD; grandchildren, Sarah Mohler and her husband, Trent, of Port St. Lucie, FI; Mark Bittinger and his wife, Nicole, of Petersburg, TN; Julie Bittinger of Kingwood, WV; and Amy Bittinger, of Oakland, MD; great grandchildren, Miles Mohler and Carson Bittinger; and siblings, Ethel 'Sis' Armentrout and her husband, Lenny of Keyser, WV. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Glen and Richard Bittinger.
Friends may call on Monday, May 22, 2023, from 11:00am-1:00pm at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD, 21550. A funeral service will begin at 1:00pm, officiated by Pastor Bryan Coffman. Interment will immediately follow at Garrett County Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be rendered. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ruth Enlow Library, 6 N. 2nd St. Ext, Oakland, MD, 21550 and Hospice of Garrett County, 203 S. 2nd St, Oakland, MD 21550.
