Freda Louise Maust, 99, of Springs, PA, died Friday, October 8, 2021, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, MD.
Born March 30, 1922, in Springs, she was the daughter of the late Norman S. and Mayme (Kimmel) Maust. Ms. Maust was preceded in death by five brothers, Herbert, Paul, Clifford, John, Claude; two sisters, Alma Maust and Elta Swartzentruber.
Ms. Maust was an LPN for 22 years at Goodwill Mennonite Home. She received her LPN license in 1971 from Somerset Hospital. Ms. Maust also worked as a cook at Penn Alps for seven years and did voluntary service for one year in Sturgis, Michigan. She was a member of the Springs Historical Society, a member of the Springs Mennonite Church where she was a member of the Daughters of Dorcas Sewing Circle, and active in various church activities. Freda also taught Sunday school at Oak Grove Mennonite Church for many years. She cared for many people in the Springs Community and wrote the “Springs Slants” for the Meyersdale New Republic. She created many quilts for family and friends.
Freda was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller Street, Grantsville, on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from 6-8 pm. Services will be conducted in the Springs Mennonite Church, on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 11:00 am, with the Rev. John Verburg officiating. Interment will be in the Springs Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11:00 am.
The family would like to thank all of her friends who cared for her over the years and to all the staff of Goodwill Mennonite Home for their care during her stay.
