Ernest Lloyd Ganoe, Jr., 92, of Frostburg, MD, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 7, 2022, surrounded by family, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, MD.
Born October 17, 1929, in Wiley Ford, WV, he was the son of the late Ernest and Martha (Whitfield) Ganoe, Sr. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Dick Ganoe; two sisters, Lavada Davis and Betty Young.
Ernie graduated from Ridgeley High School, where he was active in football and track. He spent his summers on his uncle’s farms in Bedford, PA and developed a love for farming. After graduation he served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War and spent his last year stationed in Washington, DC.
On June 20, 1953, he married Carolyn (Lambert) Ganoe and after his time in the Air Force they moved to Garrett County, MD, bought a farm and pursued his dream starting with a couple cows and a few acres, turning it into a couple hundred cows and a couple hundred acres. He truly enjoyed what he did, he was very dedicated and a very hard worker.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn (Lambert) Ganoe; one son, Dan (Rosemarie) Ganoe; six grandchildren, Natalie Ganoe, Daniel (Megan) Ganoe, II, Andrew (Amber) Ganoe, Melissa (Justin) Meyers, Maria (companion, Trevor Harding) Ganoe and Randall (companion, Shaelyn Brady) Ganoe; nine great-grandchildren, Logan, Lukas and Amelia Ganoe; Brennan, Liam, Grayson and Brooks Ganoe; Lola and Leo Myers; numerous nieces and nephews; one brother, Jim (Virginia) Ganoe.
Friends will be received at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 16864 National Pike, Frostburg, MD 21532, on Sunday, April 10, 2022, from 5-9 p.m. and Monday, April 11, 2022, from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the church on Monday, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dan Agnew officiating. Interment will be in the Ganoe Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Ganoe, II, Andrew Ganoe, Randall Ganoe, Justin Meyers, Trevor Harding and Chris Rowe. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Spiker, Jamie Spiker, Jeff Sheffield, Todd Burdock, Billy Ganoe, David Ganoe, Lenny Young and Galen Kamp.
