Donald Charles Ringer, 86, of, Accident, MD, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Oakland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Oakland, MD.
Born July 16, 1935, in Accident, he was the son of the late, Charles and Garnet (Reichenbecher) Ringer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joanna (Glotfelty) Ringer and by a son-in-law, Ronald Hoffman.
Donald was a maintenance supervisor for the Garrett Co. Board of Education and a member of St, John’s Lutheran Church E.L.C.A.. He was also a member of Accident Volunteer Fire Department for 54 years. During that time, he served as chief for 20 years and held many other positions. Donald was inducted into the Allegany & Garrett Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association Hall of Fame in 2000 and earned Garrett County Fire Fighter of the Year in 2002. He was a former member of Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad and was a past officer for the Garett County Farm Bureau. Donald loved his farm, his family and spending time with his special friend, Barb Fike.
He is survived by a son, Douglas Ringer (Shelba), Accident; three daughters, Debra Ahern (Charly), Accident, Denise Friend, Grantsville, MD and Donna Hoffman and friend, Gene Barrett, Jr., Accident; a sister, Dorothy Bernard, Swanton, MD; five grandchildren, Kristin Hoffman Sheheen (Daniel), Amanda Kamp (Cody), Nicholas Ahern (Nicole), Sami Calhoun and Adam Calhoun; two great-grandchildren, Blake Andres and Sylvie Sheheen.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A. 179, Miller St., Grantsville, MD 21536, on Tuesday from 2:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.. Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 11:00a.m. with Pastor Peter Suwak officiating. Interment will be in St, John’s Lutheran Cemetery E.L.C.A..
