Obituary for Betty Lorraine Upole (Paugh)
Betty Lorraine (Paugh) Upole, 89, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home.
Born November 29, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Paugh and Pauline Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Layman Upole; two brothers, Wesley Paugh, Jr. and Charles Paugh; four sisters, Alberta Sweitzer, Helen Michaels, Bessie Bowsers, and Dessie Tasker; and one grandson, Carl Kitzmiller.
Betty was a homemaker and attended Hiway Assembly of God in Kitzmiller, MD where she was a Sunday School teacher, fill-in pianist, and member of the prayer chain. She was a published poet and owned and operated Betty’s Variety Shop. She enjoyed entertaining at the nursing home by playing the piano.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel L. Upole (Cara R.) and Robert A. “Bud” Upole (Christine A.); two daughters, Shirley Ann Upole and Mary M. Kitzmiller (Jay A.); one sister, Jean Whitacre; thirteen grandchildren, Michael Miller, Jessica Miller, Michelle Riggleman, Erica Bowman, Misty McMasters, Malia Bunce, Micah Kinsinger, Thomas Upole, Nicole Goldsborogh, Erica Gallagher, Shawn Gallagher, Curtis Kitzmiller, and Cory Kitzmiller; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A. 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD 21550. A service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 2:00pm at Hiway Assembly of God, 3634 Kitzmiller Road, Kitzmiller, MD 21538, with Pastor Carroll Harvey officiating. Interment will be at Deer Park Cemetery.
