Obituary for Barbara Lee Skipper (Harvey)
Barbara Lee Skipper, 78 of Swanton, MD, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 26th at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
Born June 24, 1944 in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late, Alexander “Junior” Harvey and Wanda (Lee) Harvey. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jesse Paul Skipper.
Barbara began her working career as a secretary for Penman Law Offices until her retirement. She then began working as one of the first group of individuals that was hired to perform data entry for IBMI, which later was renamed TDEC. A large portion of her working career was spent on night shift as the shift supervisor. Her employment continued there until her retirement.
The Sunday after Thanksgiving in 2015 she was involved in a car crash which left her with life changing injuries. At first requiring the use of a walker which quickly escalated to the continual use of a wheelchair, she was unable to attend her beloved church, Loch Lynn Church of God. Her card ministry was born during this period of time, mailing cards on a daily basis to those going through difficult seasons of their life and needing encouragement. In the cards, she always included a note of encouragement, along with a cartoon to provide a laugh.
She is survived by her sister, Eleanor “Ann” Collins; her nephew, Mark Collins; a niece, Shayla Collins Kidwell; a great-niece, Nevaeh Fisher; and her cat, Callie.
Friends will be received at Loch Lynn Church of God, 8649 Gorman RD., Oakland, MD 21550, on Monday, January 30, 2023, from 11:00a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor’s Ivan and Cindy Ackerman officiating. Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
