Obituary for Barbara Marie Cassidy (Poling)
Barbara Marie Cassidy, 75, of Grantsville, MD, died Thursday, December 9, 2021, at UPMC Western Maryland, Cumberland, MD.
Born December 21, 1945, in Oakland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Virginia (Cogley) Poling. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Harold Cassidy and one sister, Virginia Miller.
Mrs. Cassidy was a homemaker, a dietician in a nursing home and a cafeteria worker in Harford Co. Public Schools. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Oakland, MD, where she volunteered and ran the Nearly New Shop for 25 years. She also volunteered at the Grantsville Museum and attended the Grantsville Senior Center.
She is survived by one son, John (Sandra) Cassidy, Parsons, WV; two daughters, Karen (Michael) Beitzel and JoEllen Delaney, all of Grantsville; one brother, Edward Poling, McHenry, MD; two sisters, Mamie (Elmer) Reckart and Sandy (Randy) Tasker, all of Oakland; eight grandchildren, Joseph (Kara) Garlitz, Amanda (Matthew) Lawrence, Dane (Amanda) Beitzel, Matthew (Kendra Reynolds) Cassidy, Ashley Ware, Kaitlyn Beitzel, Deanna Delaney and Bradley Delaney; and seven great-grandchildren.
At her request she will be cremated and a memorial services will be held at a later date.
Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
